Album writing rules

  1. Image
    1. Attach a cover image that is at least 1000px wide.
    2. An image is taken from a public website. (e.g., amazon, allmusic, naxos, apple music, ...)
    3. Discogs is the least preferred, since the album image/information is not reliable or not official
  2. For Title,
    1. The format is ": - <Last name of performers or the name of an orchestra, with ',' as a separator> (year of album released, omitted if not provided)".
    2. A title is to differenciate albums. It does not need to include all information as much as possible.
    3. If there are several composers with same last name, except for the most famous person, an initial letter of the first name is added in front of the last name. (e.g., B.Tchaikovsky for Boris Tchaikovsky or CPE.Bach for Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach).
    4. The name of a composer should be the one listed on Wikipedia (e.g., Rachmaninov to Rachmaninoff).
    5. Use a last name for the performers even if there are several persons with same last name, (e.g., Jarvi for Paavo Jarvi, Neeme Jarvi and Kristjan Jarvi).
    6. Use the name of an orchestra that was used at that time and use the lastest name in the Tags field instead. (e.g., Concertgebouw Orchestra became Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1988). Do not use abbreviated name and expand if if shortened (e.g., RCO -> Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra ).
    7. Use Nos. or No. as a prefix of work numbers. (e.g., Piano Concerto No. 1, Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2, Piano Concerto Nos. 1-3 or Piano Concerto Nos. 1-3 & 5) Don't use Nr or No (without '.' or space).
    8. Remove special characters and accents and diacritics for better file compatibilities. (e.g., Järvi to Jarvi). Allowed special characters are ";&,.-".
      1. ';' is to separate the composers (e.g., Saint-Saens: Piano Concerto No. 2; Rachmaninoff: Paganini Rhapsody).
      2. '&' is to combine the composers (e.g., Stravinsky & Glass: Violin Concertos) or to be used with ',' for a list of works (e.g., Prokofiev: Piano Concertos Nos. 1, 4 & 5).
      3. ',' is to separate the works from a same composer (e.g., Bartok: Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta).
  3. For Tags,
    1. Copy all the items from the tags, except for the list of works and the years.
  4. Albums
    1. The sections could be separated with a hierarchy and it could be highlighted with the combination of bold, italic, underline styles (topics > discs > works > chapters > segments/tracks )
    2. Each disc is labeled as CD1, CD2 (not CD01, Disc1) and is highlighted in bold
    3. Mention a work information once and don't repeat it in each track titles
    4. A work information shall be mentioned once even when the work is spanning multiple CDs
